SMS marketing works. But only if you have a plan, good ideas and know your target group.

If you want to start sending out business SMS, there’s one thing you will need one thing above all else: contacts. In particular, contacts who will appreciate your messages and react to them. Here are some ideas and suggestions on how to fill your database with valuable phone numbers.
Place ads, distribute flyers, hang up posters, produce a TV spot. Go for whatever method will allow you to best reach your target group. Be it online or offline.
No matter your choice, there’s two things you can’t go without: Your phone number and a good reason for potential customers to send you a text message. Raffles or coupon campaigns are usually perfect for this.
Consider small giveaways: A dinner for two at your restaurant, a wellness weekend, a temporary free membership in your fitness center, or even a simple voucher for a special item from your store.
This way, you can collect valuable phone numbers for your customer database and find people who will be interested in what you have to offer. If your customers are truly happy with your service, you can kill several birds with one stone: Offer your existing customers a small reward if they recommend you via SMS (of course, you should also throw in something nice for the newly aquired customers). Think about what you want to say and achieve with your message. Then summarize it using short, concise sentences. Your recipients should see at first glance what it’s all about. Unnecessary filler words and officialese don’t just take up space – you will also lose your customers’ attention.
Everything worked out and your target group sends you messages. Great! But that is not the end of the story for you. Next, you need to respond to these messages (using automatic replies, of course, since you wouldn’t be able to keep up otherwise).
An example: A potential customer wants to enter your raffle. The automatic reply could look like this: “Thank youfor joining our raffle. It will take place on the 30th of January, 2021. All winners will be notified via SMS.”
Responding to incoming messages isn’t just a matter of politeness – it also informs the participant that his application was successful.
You have to ask yourself what participants will get out of messaging you. Nobody joins a raffle just like that – there must be an incentive. Ideally, you should consider what your target group would be most interested in. And no, it does not have to be a Ferrari. If you are organizing a competition for hobby gardeners, for instance, even a small pack of rare plant seeds could make a great prize. It all depends on what your target group would find exciting.
You’re probably all too familiar with the flood of spam that plagues most inboxes day after day. This is one of the reasons why email newsletters have lost a lot of their effectiveness over the years.
To make sure you don’t run into the same problem with your text messages, you need to give your customers the chance to unsubscribe at any time.
An example: “Thank you very much for taking part in our raffle. If you no longer want to receive messages from us, simply reply with “STOP” to 011 44/80000000″.

According to the Telecommunications Act, you may not send unsolicited advertising. Therefore, you may only include recipients in your database who have explicitly agreed to this. And you must be able to prove it.
If there is a valid contract between you and your recipient, your terms and conditions apply. In any case, the recipient must be able to unsubscribe at any time. You must also explicitly inform him or her about this option.
Daily SMS are only welcome in certain cases – usually only when you send out really important information (such as the current pollen load for allergy sufferers, for instance). If you overdo it, people tend to unsubscribe quickly.
Of course, there’s no such thing as a “correct” interval. But if you’re advertising, you should wait at least 1-2 weeks in between messages.
Important: Not everyone keeps their cell phone turned off or in silent mode during the night. So you should always pay attention to what time of day it is before sending anything out. Between 9 pm and 9 am, your messages probably won’t be very well received.
